Melons

In summer season we can find melons in markets and in street vendors, melons or of two types Watermelon and Muskmelon.

Facts about Melons :

Watermelon is a large fruit having a diameter of 20 inches. The dark-green rind covers a soft, spongy and inner portion which is usually in reddish-pink with black seeds. Watermelon can be consumed just as a slices, squashes or in the form of juice. It as a fair amount od sodium and potassium it helps to relive muscular fatigue. Its seeds can be eaten roasted or fried, this seeds contains 34% protein and 52% oil.

Muskmelon is eaten as a delicasy, because of its typical musk like flavour and taste. It is a good ingredient for friut salads, ice creams and milk shakes. Muskmelon seeds(inner portion) are also eatable and it is used to substitute a almonds. It is very tasty and rich in protein 36% and oil 45%.

Nutritionally speaking, more than 90% pf the melon is water. The energy contant is 15-25%. Deep orange or yellow varieties of muskmelon contains some vitamin A,C and calcium.

Melons gives an excellent supply of distilled water that contains the finest mineral elements possible.

Medicinal value :

*   They are wonderful diuretie agents. They are of great value in disease of the heart, kidneys and diabetes.

*   Because of thier high water content, they have a high safiety value and hence are useful in weight reduction diets.

William Shakespeare

Great poeter and playwritter William Shakespeare was born and died in this month centuries ago... there is a confusion about is birth date... some of is book says he born and died in same date 23rd April 1564 - 23rd April 1616, but some other research says he was born on 26th april on or before 1564 and died in 23rd april... We can just leave this and celebrate the whole month to houner his work... Atleast read some of his work in this month.

The Folic Acid

Folic acid is also known as folacin and folate

Folic acid helps the body to make RNA and DNA. It helps to produce new cells. Because of this role deficiencies of folic acid can really advers effects especially during pregnancy infancy and adolesence, when the body is growing rapidly. This vitamin in combination with vitamin B12 is essential for the formation, maturation and multiplication of red blood cells.

It is a water soluble vitamin this means folic acid is not stored by our body.

Women should take this vitamin before pregnancy and early pregnancy atleast 0.4 mg of it. This vitamin is very important to womens health. We can have folic acid in our daily food like greeny vegetables, egg, orange juice etc.. We can also have a suppliment of it in the form of capsules and tonics.

Folic acid can be very rapidly destroyed when heated in any neutral or alkaline substances, so becareful of overcooking the food.
